Alexey Lukyanuk has been injured in a testing crash in his native Russia. The FIA European Rally Championship event winner suffered non-life threatening injuries and is now being treated in hospital in St Petersburg where he was flown by helicopter following the accident in Russia’s Pskov region yesterday (Wednesday). Two other people, Nikita Gergel and Vjacheslav Kucherov, were injured in the collision between two cars at a testing venue. Sadly, Alexey Ljaduhin, who was co-driving one of the cars, died.
Lukyanuk won the ERC-counting Rally Islas Canarias earlier this month and had been expected to challenge for victory on next month’s SEAJETS Acropolis Rally, round three of the 2017 European championship. His co-driver, Alexey Arnautov, was not involved in the incident.
The thoughts of the ERC community are with those affected by the events of yesterday and to Alexey Lukyanuk for a swift recovery.
