The European Rally Championship remained on Mediterranean landscape, with Cyprus Rally being the second consecutive hard event of the calendar. The rally was characterized by hard stages and hot weather, which made the attempts of crews even more difficult. Nasser Al Attiyah-Matthieu Baumel (Ford Fiesta R5) took advantage of their experience in such events and claimed a comfortable win, after combining successfully speed and reliability. The locals Simos Galatariotis-Antonis Ioannou (Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X) finished in 2nd place of the overall classification, which is the best result for a Cypriot crew in recent ERC history. The podium was completed by Panikos Polykarpou-Gerald Winter (Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX), in a very good rally for Cyprus, as two drivers claimed podium finishes. The good news for Cyprus continue, as Christos Dimosthenous-Pambos Laos (Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX) finished in 4th place of the overall classification and won ERC2 category. SEAJETS Acropolis Rally proved once more its fame as one of the toughest and most demanding international rallies. The hard stages of Fthiotida and Fokida were a difficult test for both cars and competitors and proved unpredictable in terms of final results, until the Finish Ramp at the National Trade Fair in Lamia.
Back-to-back European Champion Kajetan Kajetanowicz claimed his 2nd win at SEAJETS Acropolis Rally behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta R5, after his first victory in 2015. This result was not easy at all, as he had to make a comeback, after the problems he faced yesterday. Today he set fast times, while all his main opponents hit trouble. At first, it was the overnight leader Nasser Al-Attiyah who had a problem with the power steering of his Ford Fiesta R5 from the very first stage of the day (EKO Racing Eleftherohori 1) and lost time. The Qatari driver fell 3rd but his bad luck continued, as in the second pass from the same stage his power steering failed again at the same place and he was forced to retire after the completion of the stage.
